The Makana Bodybuilding team travelled to Port Elizabeth on Sunday 17 June in order to participate in the Eastern Province Developmental competition. The Makana Bodybuilders were represented in the U17, U19 and Welterweight divisions throughout the day. Orren Jacobs brought the Welterweight title back to Grahamstown, as well as winning the Eastern Province Novice Overall title. Navan Daniels was also rewarded for his hard work, taking second place in the U19 division. The independent investigation into the SuperSport walkout incident came to a close last week, stating that there was no racism in the incident. After a stellar performance for Kingswood’s Girls’ first hockey team at the annual K-Day derby, Zinathi Mbenyana was identified as the standout player in the first team hockey encounter between Kingswood and DSG. Despite neither team managing to outscore the other, Mbenyana was the difference between the sides on the day. The 17-year-old grade 11 at Kingswood College has been performing outstandingly on the hockey field for a number of years. After a gruelling half marathon race in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 26 May, local star runner and cross-triathlete Terri-Lynn Penney has been selected to represent the Eastern Province (EP) in the upcoming half marathon SA Championships. Penney’s is the only Grahamstown selection for this year’s team. On Wednesday 30 May, students from Syracuse University in New York State, America, descended upon Grahamstown’s Graham Hotel to host a meet and greet together with the Inkululeko programme. The event was the official start of the Syracuse students’ three-week trip in Grahamstown. While in town, the students will be working alongside volunteers from Inkululeko in an attempt to experience the Grahamstown culture.
