With every ring of the bell and strike of the clapper, the Cathedral bells echo with history and pride as they ring for Christ, drawing people towards the church. The Department of Waster and Santiation says the R3.5m fine issued to a Western Cape farming operation for water and environment offences should serve as a deterrent. The Tierhoek Boerdery Pty (Ltd) in Clamwilliam, Western Cape, has been issued a fine of R3.5 million for contraventions to the National Water Act. The matter was first heard the Clanwilliam Regional Court in March 2018, and was finalised on Friday 14 June 2019. The police have appealed for any information that could lead to the arrest of two men who assaulted and robbed an elderly Alicedale couple last night. The couple, in their late 70s, were robbed at their home around 10.30pm on 13 June 2019, according to police spokesperson Captain Khaya Thonjeni. “The victims were asleep, with both doors of their house locked,” Thonjeni said. “Two males with faces covered and hands in gloves gained access to their house armed with firearms and began assaulting the two victims, demanding money while hurling threats and insults at them. “No shots were fired during this…

Rugby: 1st XV 2019 – Jonathan Mallett The Kingswood College 1st XV had a very good start to the year with five consecutive wins in the first five fixtures played against Pearson, St John’s College, Parktown Boys, Dale College and Kearsney College. The team struggled in the next few festival games and narrowly lost against Hilton College, SACS, Maritzburg College and Hudson Park in the first regular season games. The famous derby started in May 1898, when Kingswood College played rugby against St Andrew’s College. The Wesleyan School for Girls played their first hockey match against DSG in 1904. The first Kingswood College match against the DSG was played in 1977 and was captained by one of our   own staff members, Annette Knott-Craig (neè Browne).
