National Arts Festival reports attendance of almost 186 000

The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown has reported year-on-year growth on attendance of 8.47%, with total attendance at Festival events in 2010 reaching 185 776.

Driven by care and love for the imprisoned, three artists performing at the National Arts Festival took the  festivities to the Grahamstown Correctional Centre last week.

Ticket sales reach new heights

The longer than usual National Arts Festival has proved to be a resounding success in terms of ticket sales. At the halfway mark, ticket sales had increased by 7% compared to last year which is a good sign as the Soccer World Cup has brought about some international media coverage.
 

Spiritually indigenous music for the soul

Thobile Magagula and Gcebile and Bongiwe Dlamini, make up the indigenous Afrocentric musical trio called Spirits Indigenous who travelled all the way from Swaziland to Grahamstown to perform at the Festival this year.

Making traditional dancing popular

Traditional dancing group Mnombo we Afrika use traditional dancing to educate people about traditional culture and rituals.
