As anyone who has ever written matric would know, getting six distinctions is impossible. Yet in spite of this incontrovertible fact, several local pupils have achieved the impossible, five pupils in Grahamstown schools have even gone so far as to reach way beyond impossible and achieve eight distinctions.
The ANC's decision to steamroll the Protection of Information Bill through the National Assembly earlier this week was disgraceful and an insult to all South Africans.
What an incredibly busy weekend we have ahead of us. Anyone who describes this town as a "sleepy hollow" will definitely have to revise her point of view – at least for this weekend. Grahamstown is not a boring town according to the national tedium meter. It can be criticised for a whole assortment of reasons – and this newspaper often takes on the responsibility of doing the criticising – but this town is not dreary. In fact, we can safely say that compared to other urban centres in this country, Grahamstown packs more pounds of passion punch than any other place.
A young woman walks into a local shop to buy a widget or two. There is a customer ahead of her being attended to by a shop assistant, but there are two other employees who don’t appear to be doing anything particularly urgent. One is packing boxes on to a shelf and the other is chatting on a cellphone.
The young woman is in a hurry and anxious to get her widgets and move on - but everything and everyone around her seems to be moving in slow motion.
People of Khoisan descent must unite. The ANC and DA are using you to further the interests of their people. These parties don't care for you. They only want your votes. Punish them in 2014.
