Cradock Heights

Cradock Heights is a middle class, white neighbourhood.  This area is situated away from town and is quiet and peaceful.  It is, however, a rare sight to see residents walking about or out in their gardens.  Being one of the newest suburbs in Grahamstown, there are family homes as well as vacant land available for development.  Due to this, security systems such as gates and fences, garages to name a few are not as prominent in this area as this area is still in its development.Although relatively new, one would be able to find a retirement village, a Christian centre and a local school nearby.

Westhill

Westhill is an affluent area located near the Rhodes University campus. Occupants include a combination of residents living in permanent abodes as well as students living in temporary digs.  The area is lush and well kept with traffic at a minimum and a lack of aimless loiterers in the area.  Prominent buildings in the area include that of DSG and St Andrews. Although it appears to be a quiet and peaceful area, almost all houses exhibit various measures of security from makeshift barbed wire, beams and “beware of dog” signs to electric fences and gates. Almost every gate or wall displays the yellow “Hit-Tec Response” warning.

Hill 60

The area of Hill 60 is a quiet suburban area, home to residents of Grahamstown and Rhodes students alike. A large expanse of open field sits above Worcester Street, which is visible during the day, but badly lighted and unsafe at night. People feel comfortable walking the streets and the area is kept reasonably well, with little rubbish littering the streets. Many houses have high walls and some have electric fencing. Most are protected by Hi-Tec which is evident from the signs alerting people to the fact. The area is very green with many trees and plants decorating houses and sidewalks, whilst the roads are all tarred and well maintained.
