Community and muni must work together

Andiswa Nojoko

The community and the municipality have to take responsibility together for the issue of rubbish management in Grahamstown.

Maggie Swartz at Seaflight Fisheries says they work very closely with the municipality as their shop is located right in the middle of town, so they have to maintain it and keep it clean. They put their rubbish into the black bags that they are given by the municipality, and they use their own transport to take away their rubbish every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and sometimes on a Saturday too.

Because they use a lot of disposable substances, they use their own transport to take their garbage to the place where the municipality picks it up. In order to to prevent a misunderstanding with the municipality they prefer using their own transport to take it from their premises to the municipal pick-up point.
