Dozens of eager readers had come into the Hill Street Library by mid-morning on Wednesday 22 March, the day the facility reopened after being closed for renovations for more than a year.

MEC sets sights on libraries

On the same day the head of Makana Public Libraries informed councillors that the municipality was about to lose internet services and computers, Arts and Culture MEC Pemmy Majodina announced that 30 libraries in the Eastern Cape would be established as libraries of excellence, to serve as community development centres.

Pistol seized

A 24 year old male was arrested by a Moyeni detective last week after he followed up on information about a firearm, reports Captain Mali Govender, South African Police Service spokesperson.

Rhino case trio remain in custody

Three suspects linked to a June 2016 rhino poaching case at Buckland’s Private Game Reserve 40km from Grahamstown remain in custody following a brief appearance in the magistrate’s court in Grahamstown on Wednesday 15 March.
