Drivers blame each other for collision

Two cars collided in front of Knights Shoes in High Street on Wednesday afternoon, and dispute erupted after drivers started blaming each other. It is alleged that a white Hyundai i20 with registration number CA 810 696, was reversing out of a parking lot and bumped into a white VW Polo Classic with registration number CA 924 031, that was driving up High Street.

The driver of the Polo alleges that the Hundai was reversing towards him and he stopped and started to blow the horn but the car kept on coming until it bumped into his car. “I saw the car was coming towards me, I stopped and blew the horn but this lady (Hyundai driver) was playing loud music and could not hear the hooter until she bumped into my car,” he alleged.

About four eyewitnesses agreed that the Hyundai driver was the cause of the accident, except one man who was adamant that the woman did nothing wrong, and said that he saw everything from the other side of the road. The man argued that the woman did everything right, but the Polo did not give her an opportunity to execute her maneuver and hit her from behind. The man further said that the Polo did not blow the hooter.

While the Polo driver was waiting for the police outside his car, the woman was sobbing inside her car maintaining that she did not do anything wrong. “If he saw that my reverse lights were on, then why didn't he stop?” she asked. The lady admitted that she was playing music and did not hear the warning hoot from the car behind her.

When police arrived at the scene about 20 minutes later, they first spoke to the Polo driver who gave them his side of the story and produced his driver's license. When it was the lady's turn to talk she started crying again and could not produce her driver's license. She said that she left her license at work and the police took the drivers and the witnesses to the police station for an accident report.
