Festival swoops accomodation ahead of WC

There may be no accommodation bookings related to the upcoming soccer world cup in Grahamstown as most B&B and guest houses say they are fully-booked due to the festival.

Graham Hotel says it has received three bookings while the Historical Cottage says there was an enquiry by a  visitor who was moving from Cape town to Durban. An inspection was condcuted by the world cup's Makana Local Organising Committee at Kwakwesela Homestay and the owner is hoping to host some world cup volunteers.

Accommodation is divided into six types, namely, backpackers, hotel, guest house, B&B, Entabeni Homestays and Kwam eMakana Homestays. Homestays are in the township and their bookings are done through the Makana Tourism Board.
They pay 10% of the proceeds from bookings to the board and are not allowed to do their own bookings.

Willem Makkink, Makana Tourism director, said they are ready for the world cup and that he expects a lifetime experience.
He added that the town's economy will gain about R60-million because there will be 15 days of the arts festival running concurrently with the world cup.

Most hotel owners believe that visitors will stay next to the stadiums.
