Soccer and entertainment at the PVA

The Makana Local Organising Committee (LOC) is promising live entertainment to soccer fans who will be watching world cup matches at the Public Viewing Area (PVA) in Miki Yili Stadium.

This was revealed by LOC co-ordinator Jeff Budaza while addressing Citizen Journalists on the municipality's state of readiness. “There are transport arrangements to take fans to the PVA, as was done last year during the Confederations Cup,” he said.

Miki Yili Stadium has a capacity of 5 000 people and Budaza said power cuts will be kept under control as the big plasma screens will be using diesel-fuelled generators. " The Eskom supply will be on stand-by as a back up should the generators fail," he added.

There will be a lot of entertainment because Budaza said a tender worth millions of rands has been awarded by the provincial government to a company which will provide performing artists for 25 days of the tournament.

He added that in addition to taps there will be rain water tanks available at the Public Viewing Area. He also said the provincial traffic department will provide Grahamstown with three more traffic vehicles and that two more ambulances will also be assigned to Grahamstown.

“The police will be visible inside and outside the stadium, and they will make it a point that no fans come into the stadium under the influence of any substance,” he said.
