The much anticipated Rhodes Carnival took place on Friday night on the Rhodes University Great Field.

The SRC-organised event, formerly known as the street party, was moved from Prince Alfred Street to the field “due to safety and logistical reasons” according to the SRC.

Taking place to mark the beginning of Anti Alcohol-abuse week at Rhodes, the Rhodes Carnival was a tightly-run and these secure and appropriate venue for the students to enjoy the exciting lineup appearing on stage.

Among other acts included local band, 10 Points for the Dismount and Pretoria-based Desmond and the Tutus who have performed on national and international stages.

Describing themselves as “a little pop n roll kwela disco punk band,” Desmond and the Tutus showed why they have such a huge following, as all eyes and ears were on their very short shorts and massive musical talent during the performance.

Throughout the Carnival, members of the SRC including the SRC President, Eric Ofei took turns to MC the proceedings.
