Shades of Green (at the Makana Resort) will be hosting a jazz evening on Saturday, April 10. The evening will feature Prof. Marc Duby (Bass), Rick van Heerden (Saxophone), Steve Ellis (Drums) and Kingsley Buitendag (Piano).
Prof. Marc Duby is the Head of the Rhodes Music Department. He has also worked as the Head of the Music School of Pretoria Technikon at the universities of Natal, Durban-Westville, and Natal Technikon. He has been played with a number of world-renowned jazz musicians over the years and is a pillar of jazz bass and jazz composition in South Africa.
Sax player,Rick van Heerden Is a seasoned passionate performer. He Lectures saxophone at Rhodes and teaches at Dsg and St Anderws College.
Piano player Kingsley Buitendag is a multi-instrumentalist who was selected to perform in the prestigious National Youth Jazz Band in 2008 and 2009. Kingsley moved to Grahamstown in 2009 to work on a Masters Degree in Music at Rhodes University.
Drummer Steve Ellis is a graduate of Rhodes University where he completed a Bachelor of Music, he is currently working towards his Masters in Music. He is currently employed as a music teacher at St Andrew’s College in Grahamstown, and as a part time drum kit lecturer at Rhodes University.
