presentation.
Title: "You Don't Know Raya: introducing the Marxist Humanism of Raya
Dunayevskaya"
Speakers: Professor Sandra Rein(Associate Professor of Political Studies,
University of Alberta, Canada)
Date: Thursday, 23rd February 2012
Time: 13H00
Venue: Humanities Seminar Room
This paper is premised on two notions. The first is that the unique and
important philosophical contributions of Raya Dunayevskaya remain relatively
unknown in both the scholarly and activist communities.
The second is that Dunayevskaya's use of absolute negativity as the
foundation for a New Beginning, derived from her critical re-reading of
Marx, lays a foundation for thinking and acting philosophically to realize
new, human relations.
This seminar is linked to a project entitled 'Herstory, the 'Red Tent' and
Matrilineage in the Eastern Cape." The questions we are raising in the
project relate to regional leadership and whether styles of femi-socialist
leadership can promote better notions of democracy. In order to advance this
discussion, we are trying to shed light on the works of lesser known women
revolutionaries, such as the seminar that Sandra (Prof. Rein) is proposing
to do.
I am gatvol with taxis in town who think they can drive just the way they want to and not care about other drivers in town. The taxis drive in the wrong lane at the robots just to get out in front fast so that they don\'t have to wait anther 3min to drop off their passengers. They drive next to each other in one lane not caring for cars who want to park or reverse out of parkings or even simply just to turn a corner. Where are the traffics for the taxis? They just want to watch motorists. What about the state that most of the taxis are in? Can't the taxi industry hire responsible drivers? Wait and see what accidents are on the way if they don't get stopped soon.
