The Diocesan School for Girls Summer Sports Awards were announced in a recent school assembly, where a number of girls were congratulated for receiving awards. Toni Rafferty was one of the standouts, being re-awarded her swimming honours, while a number of other girls were awarded for their excellent sporting achievements throughout the summer season. The Rhodes University Archery Club hosted the 2018 Eastern Cape Provincial Target Archery Indoor Championships over the weekend of 26 and 27 May. The tournament was well supported with archers travelling from as far as Cape Town and Pretoria, as well as Port Elizabeth, Tarkastad and East London. This was the first in a series of four indoor tournaments that will be hosted by Rhodes Archery. The St Andrew’s hockey club experienced one of the toughest encounters of the season against Grey this past weekend, losing all 12 matches played on Friday 1 June and Saturday 2 June. There were many closely contested matches, namely the U16 B, the Second team and First team, but across all teams, Grey were more skilful and outplayed the SAC teams in every department. The First team match was an exciting, fast-paced match which was evenly contested in the first half, but an early second half goal for Grey gave them the advantage.
