Police arrested three men for possession of dagga valued over R50 000 in Makhanda today. South African Police Service Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli said a police vehicle on patrol on the Makana Brick Road east of Makhanda in the early hours of Tuesday 27 July spotted a blue Toyota Corolla traveling towards town. Because it was travelling during the lockdown curfew, they stopped it. “The three occupants of the vehicle, started acting suspiciously and also could not produce a permit to be on the road,” Majoli said. Police arrested a 44-year-old man for possession of stolen vehicle at Fort Beaufort around 11pm on 26 July 2021. The arrest followed information recieved about a vehiclereported stolen at Walmer, Gqeberha, earlier this month. Police were on patrol when they spotted the vehicle on R63 and stopped it. When the driver ran away, the police chased him on foot and caught him. He was arrested and charged for possession of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was confiscated. The man is due to appear in theFort Beaufort Magistrate Court Wednesday 28 July.

More than 55 per cent of young people are most anxious due to the impact of COVID-19 on levels of violence and poverty, according to a new UNICEF South Africa U-Report survey, released on Youth Day.
