By MAKANA COMMUNICATIONS Makana Local Municipality is embarking on the first phase of its Roads Rehabilitation Programme with the R10 million funding sourced from the Municipal Infrastructure Services Agent (MISA). For this project, MISA has appointed Mamlambo Construction Company for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the three main roads within the CBD: Somerset, Huntley and High streets. Victims of Crime Survey results released by Statistics South Africa this week indicate that aggregate crime levels in the period 2017/18 increased as compared to 2016/17. It is estimated that over 1.5 million incidences of household crime occurred in South Africa in 2017/18, an increase of 5% compared to the previous year. Incidences of crime on individuals are estimated to be over 1,6 million, an increase of 5% from the previous year. A teenage girl was found unharmed in a vehicle stolen during a farm robbery near Fort Beaufort on Monday 15 October. The incident took place at Doringkloof, near Fort Beaufort, police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said. “An unknown number of robbers entered the farm premises and kidnapped a young woman with two farm vehicles and several other items from the home before fleeing. “The young woman, who was found unharmed in one of the vehicles, received trauma counselling.
